Swimmer Keys

If you live on the Central Coast then there’s a good chance you love the water, especially if you are a surfer.  So what do you do with your keys when you hit the water? Most surfers don’t have a bag and if they did, leaving your keys in your bag on the beach is risky.

Swimmer keys are the answer you have been looking for. It’s simply a duplicated key of your original remote key without remote buttons or transponder chip. You just simply leave your original keys in your car and close the door and lock the car with your swimmer key and stick it in your leg strap pocket or shove it in your wetsuit.

Depending on your car make and model, you may not be able to do this, especially if you have an alarm or even a keyless start. On some cars, the alarm will trigger even if you unlock your car with a key. It best to ask us first before going to the trouble of cutting a non-transponder swimmer key.

If you are one of the lucky ones and you can use a swimmer key, then you may also have the option of having it chipped as well. If we are able to clone your key using a glass transponder chip, then there’s no reason why you can’t go swimming or surfing and get the key wet. If you have a carbon transponder chip then there may be a risk over time that water might absorb in and damage the chip. Even though I haven’t done enough research on this, I feel this would be the case. If you have no problem with the alarm then you don’t need to bring your remote key along with you at all. Just use your spare chipped key to start your car, lock it up at the beach and unlock it after your surf or swim.
